Still a disaster
Well, I tried dying the yarn again with purple Kool-Aid, and it still turned out a disaster. See for yourselves . . .
Don't let what looks like color in the photos fool you. The overall color of the yarn seems to be a vaguely purplish muddy sort of brown with kind of a yellow tinge. I may give this one more shot before I call it quits, but I'm going to need a fresh batch of yarn to experiment on.
We'll see.

Hi. Just stumbled onto your blog. I've tried koolaid dying and it turned out great, EXCEPT with the grape/purple kind. The dye seemed to separate and I couldn't get a solid purple color. I redyed it with hot pink food coloring and that seemed to perk it up. Good luck!
I really would like to learn to dye yarn. It looks like it would be so much fun to have the finished product, but I'm not at all sure about the process. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

i posted some photos on my blog of my kool aid dyeing, i started out with grey wool that was boring. i had to dye it more than once to get a saturated color. The yarn that I dyed with the grape kool aid i used more packages than i thought I should.
I moistened the yarn in the sink with the vegetable sprayer thing, and then left it in a colander in the sink while i mixed the dye.
i put the yarn in the pot with the kool aid (I used an enormous soup/pasta pot that I have) i heated the whole mess to barely boiling then turned off the heat, and put the lid on the pot. I set the timer for 30 minutes, and checked to make sure that all the yarn was underwater every five minutes or so.
I am very pleased with how it turned out, and I hope that this information helps you.
I'm obviously going to have to give up on the microwave method and use the boiling method instead. I haven't tried any more dying yet. Been too tired and busy with other things.

aw, it's too bad the dyeing didn't turn out for you. hope you get the method down soon - without having to destroy much more yarn! good luck!
