A Stitch in Time

A stitch in time may save nine, but I'd rather show off the things I've made or had made for me.

It grew

I spent some of yesterday knitting so the scarf has grown some. I have completed two iterations of the 46 row pattern.

Minor progress

Despite being so tired from work that I didn't know if I was coming, going, or standing still, I did manage to make a little bit of progress on two of the three 'active' projects I've got going.

This is last week's progress on the butterfly fairy . . .

And this is this week's progress photo . . .

The only stitching I did on the fairy this week was on the moon between her wings. Even in the the bright fluorescent light of the company lunchroom, stitching almost white on mostly white is a pain and still my absolutely least favorite thing about this project.

I also managed to knit a few more rows on the Bird's Nest scarf. I like the width it is now, but I'm concerned I might not have enough yarn to make it long enough to drape adequately around the neck. After I get it done, I may wind up having to frog it again and starting over with it narrower to make it longer. Oh, well. I'll see what I see when I see it.

Nap time again

The Prodigal Son snapped this picture of Izzy sleeping the day away. He used his cell phone and I had him email me the shot. I swear. Izzy seems to do nothing but nap . . . and snuggle. She's become quite the little snuggle kitty.

Formless puddle transmutes

Remember the formless puddle of green lace weight yarn I was working on? The one that was off by one stitch and I was trying bravely not to frog? Well . . . I undid it all today and started over. Not only was the count off by one stitch, the scarf was also a lot wider than I wanted it to be. This new version has the right number of stitches and is a width I much prefer. I'm liking it so much better.

As time goes by

A kiss may just be a kiss, but a scarf is . . . um . . . a scarf?

Remember this? Well, it's now become this . . .

Entrelac scarf in multiple multi-colors

Yes, this hideous piece of work is my own personal version of a scarp scarf. I couldn't think what else to do with the leftover bits of sock yarn so I decided I would make a fashionably unfashionable scarf for myself. I shall be the height of un-kewl come next winter.

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie

That's a butterfly fairy being worked on again. The hiatus, which started in October, is over. I worked on her over three lunch hours this week. I even stitched a bit on the oh so hated moon.

This is what she looked like when I left off working on her in October . . .

And this is her as of yesterday's stitching . . .

Cruisin' the blogs

I took today off work because I have repair people coming to fix broken appliances. The Prodigal Son is home and quite capable of dealing with them, but it was such a week at work that I just needed a break.

Anyway, I've spent the morning cruising through rings and whatnot and just reading knitting blogs. It appears the whole world is knitting socks and using self-striping yarn to make them with. And I've come to a startling conclusion. I don't like self-striping yarn. I don't particularly like the patterns the various kinds make nor do I like the limited textures you can use them with. The patterning is just too rigid and fixed. It seems I like chaos in my colors. But then, you knew that, didn't you? Why else would I keep buying hand-painted yarn?

The Comet - A stitch in time for Spike

Bad grammar aside, this is a cute story about an enterprising budgie who likes to cross stitch.

If god had intended me to knit today . . .

. . . the great outdoors wouldn't have called to me. I spent the day out and about taking pictures and enjoying the drive. Check it out here. You might have to scroll down some to get to the 14th if today isn't the 14th anymore. There are also pictures of my Furry Monsters.

The girlfriend loves her socks

"They feel so good!" she said when I opened the door for her just now.

that I'm making for myself. I've made enough socks for everybody else, I decided to make a pretty for myself and the scarf fit the bill. However, it is taking all of my will power not to rip out the 20 odd rows I've already done because I discovered I had one stitch too many when I got to the 7th row of the pattern. I'd counted my stitches twice to make sure I had the right number and I guess I made the same counting mistake twice since I'm one stitch off. It's not a significant error, but my German perfectionism is screaming at me and my American laziness is trying to ignore it. So far, the lazy American is winning.

I'm knitting the scarf on US 6 Clover bamboo needles.

And the stash continues to grow

Got four more skeins of yarn in the mail today. ~ happy dance ~ All of it is sock yarn.

Four skeins of sock yarn in various colors

The colors are blues & greys, oranges, blues & pinks, and greens & greys. I love my stash.
